Interesting that in the early 70's Texas Hold'em was still many years away from becoming the game of choice among California players.


The first WSOP in Las Vegas was in 1971 and the 6 players taking part across a variety of games later voted who the winner was. Texas Hold'em being later chosen for the main event perhaps because a majority of Nevada's poker players at the time hailed from Texas.
