Right now there are two news stories that suggest that casino staff will be taking strike action in the New Year. Croupiers: no deal http://www.canada.com/montreal/news/story.asp?id={7F309672-9D45-4903-A3E4-7638E854A8B0} Crown strike seems odds-on http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2...0511175687.html Both casinos have Union representation and it appears in each case negotiations with Management have been unsuccessful over pay and working conditions. I will post further news headlines when found. Ian |

Strike
Do you ever see the day when UK dealers strike?I see a union finally got of the ground in London. Will employers recognise it,will players cross picket lines, will management replace us with machines?A generation too late I think,to form a union.

Not a generation too soon
Hi,
The employers must recognise the union, it's been done through legal process, look at some of the posts that have been posted in this forum for info. As for strikes, it depends on the situation I suppose, but I doubt if it will ever happen here. As for being a generation too late, you are probably right, but it is only now that a government has given the means for unions to be recognised in a workplace through legal means. And that means if recognition is won, employers must talk with the union, regardless of whether they like too or not!

Hi,
No they are not for unions now! They are fighting tooth and nail not to be forced to recognise them, a couple of reasons for this is that the companies do not want employees having any say in the industry that they work in, and with recognition comes the right for the union to negotiate the terms and conditions of employment, these are the main reasons why they don't want any recognition agreements. Because it will cost them money, apparently!
