Tennessee sports betting could be live by July
Tennessee (racing) - Scott T. Miller, Action Network - Tennessee expects to go live with legal online sports betting as early as July 2020, sources tell The Action Network. It’s been a long road to getting the sports betting rules written and approved — Gov. Bill Lee allowed the sports betting bill to become a law in May 2019 — but regulations are expected to be released on Friday, and some of them are sure to be controversial. Tennessee will cap the amount a bettor could win at 90% of his/her original stake, becoming the first state to mandate that the books generate at least a 10% hold. https://bit.ly/2XYLwGt

Legal Sports Betting In Colorado Begins
Colorado (sports) - Jeff Todd, KCNC - As many sports wait out the coronavirus pandemic, Colorado sports betting will start on Friday. In November 2019, voters narrowly approved a tax that casinos would pay on the sports betting winnings to fund water projects across the state. “There was going to be a home Rockies game and the Kentucky Derby was going to be this Saturday so there was going to be this great rollout of sports betting here in Colorado. But now we’re in a new world,” said state Rep. Alec Garnett, who helped push the bipartisan legislation forward last legislative session. “Life is different without sports. So it’s a different type of launch, but the point is the Division of Gaming deserves a tremendous amount of credit for working with the regulated entities. I believe it’s going to protect consumers, most importantly.” https://bit.ly/2YxZb7k

Governor ‘confident’ some casinos will reopen by Memorial Day
Mississippi (COVID-19) - WLOX - One of the biggest questions facing the Mississippi Gulf Coast in regards to economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic is when will casinos reopen… “We are hopeful that we are really close to developing a plan,” Reeves said in his press briefing Thursday. “I am confident by Memorial Day weekend we will have some of the facilities open, not in the exact way they were open before. We have some continued work to do, but we are heading toward ensuring social distancing in those venues in a way that can be safe for Mississippians.” https://bit.ly/3dcgKyb

Racing 'under consideration' to return in Pennsylvania, Maryland
National (racing) - Horse Racing Nation - On the heels of news that racing may soon resume in California, Kentucky and New York arrived reports that Maryland and Pennsylvania are making moves in the same direction. The Harrisburg, Pa., Patriot-News reports that 6,000 racing supporters have signed a petition that asks Gov. Tom Wolf to authorize racing in the state without spectators…the Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association is optimistic that racing will be among the earliest industries to resume operation. https://bit.ly/2ycyPgK

Louisiana casinos could reopen by Memorial Day
Louisiana (COVID-19) - Britt Lofaso, KLFY - In many parishes across the state, the number of COVID-19 cases has flattened. The Louisiana Gaming Control Board says as long as that continues, it’s likely casinos could re-open in May. “If the numbers continue to do what we hope they’re going to do and flatten out, perhaps by the end of the month,” Louisiana Gaming Control Board Chairman Ronnie Jones said. “It will be reduced capacity. We won’t be filling up these gaming floors with hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of people. It’ll probably be a percentage of what their authorized capacity is,” Jones said. https://bit.ly/2zeRatw

NJ Legislature introduces casino relief bills
New Jersey (Atlantic City) - Michelle Brunetti Post, Press of Atlantic City - Assemblyman Vince Mazzeo and John Armato have major concerns about casino relief legislation…The bills, designed to help casinos survive the COVID-19 pandemic, would give casinos temporary relief from a variety of taxes and fees, and offer state loans to cover their May and August payments in lieu of property taxes to Atlantic City. President Steve Sweeney sponsored S2400 and S2398 in the Senate, and Louis Greenwald, D-Camden, Burlington, sponsored A4031 and A4032 in the Assembly. https://bit.ly/3fsNpkL

VIDEO This Week in Gambling: The new faces of Las Vegas? https://bit.ly/3cbUAM9
As we inch slowly closer to the Las Vegas reopening, it's apparent that things will not be "business as usual" when Vegas casinos open their doors.

Maryland takes revenue hit from closed casinos in April
Maryland (results) - Colin Campbell, Baltimore Sun - With Maryland’s casinos dark in April to help prevent spread of the coronavirus, the state of Maryland took a roughly $60 million revenue hit in April and is down more than $85 million in the past 10 months, compared with the previous year, the state Lottery and Gaming Commission said Tuesday. In April 2019, Maryland’s casinos reported $145.2 million in revenue — $60 million of which went to the state. https://bit.ly/2WyiRFH

Deadwood casinos to begin reopening this week
South Dakota (Deadwood) - Chris Dancy, KNBN - Good news for Deadwood, and ultimately for the South Dakota state coffers as well. The Deadwood City Commission has approved the second reading of an ordinance that will allow businesses — including casinos — to reopen. The measure passed at the Commission’s meeting Monday night. Businesses will be allowed to open their doors again this coming Thursday, May 7. https://bit.ly/2zlx8NS

Lawmakers aim to aid casinos with tax credits, zero-interest loans
New Jersey (Atlantic City) - Daniel J. Munoz, Business Journal - Lawmakers introduced legislation this week creating tax breaks and zero-interest loans to help prop up the state’s nine casinos as they see revenue nosedive during the COVID-19 global pandemic…Assembly Bill 4031, would let casinos borrow interest-free loans from the state to cover property tax payments toward the Atlantic City government, so as to keep afloat a local government already with very few sources of money. A second measure, Assembly Bill 4032, grants tax breaks to the casinos on a sliding scale, depending on how steep a drop they’ve seen in revenue. https://bit.ly/3bfbzMm

Moody’s warns of potential default by Mohegan Gaming
Europe (Greece) - Phil, G3 Newswire - Moody’s Investors Service believes that Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment, the Connecticut-based casino group who won the license for an E8bn casino at the former Hellenikon International Airport in Greece, is at risk of default. Earlier this month, Mohegan missed a $19.7m interest payment with the operator claiming it didn’t make the payment as it is trying to conserve cash. It said it would be able to cover that $19.7m before the end of a 30-day grace period. https://bit.ly/3b7SxYp

GB's Covid-19 gambling decline to peak at 59.1% in May
Europe (UK) - iGaming Business - Exclusive data from H2 Gambling Capital lays bare the decline in British betting and gaming gross win as a result of novel coronavirus…With all bricks and mortar premises closed from mid-March, H2 now expects a 37.8% decline in retail gross win for the year, mitigated in part by an 0.4% increase in online yield. However, this will still ultimately result in a 17.7% decline on its market projections prior to Covid-19. This, H2 noted, effectively takes market revenue back to 2013-14 levels. The decline is set to peak in May…with the sector only returning to growth with an 0.4% rise from November. https://bit.ly/35Y2vub

APCW Perspectives: Contradictory statements and mixed messages https://bit.ly/3fYYpqm

The U.K. Gambling Commission has issued new guidelines from both sides of their mouths. Meanwhile, industry news from Holland is equally confusing, and Denmark news is somewhat amusing. https://bit.ly/3fYYpqm
