Lightbulb Dr No & Bond's introduction at Les Ambassadeurs

An iconic entrance for Ian Fleming's character in the first of the motion picture series Dr. No - the Chemin de Fer tables of Le Cercle at Les Ambassadeurs.

It was 1962 and Chemin de Fer had only recently arrived from the continent and as casino person one cannot fail to be impressed by the scene's authenticity. Andre the Croupier played by Alan Gold is perfect, the plaques are right, the layout, Sabot and table reactions of the other players are spot on. You can even work out how much was won and lost and it all appears to tally perfectly.

There is however, something of a surprising twist.

Let's watch the scene.

Question So what's the twist?

The twist in this story, and what could be regarded as a significant piece of trivia, is that the voice of Miss Sylvia Trench's character played by Eunice Gayson was dubbed. The voice belongs to German actress Nikki van de Zyl who's roll in the film and subsequent work on Bond movies apparently remains uncredited.

Here's the story as detailed in the Daily Mail back in September 2012 and the North London News in January 2013.

The secret Bond girl: Unknown artist dubbed the voices of 007's best-known beauties - but now she's banned from the movies spy's 50th birthday party!

van de Zyl was also the voice of Ursula Andress for the song Under the Mango Tree later in the film.

The MI6 community have been on the case for a few years now.

Got to love Miss Trench, she lost her money at the tables but still had the class to leave a 50 tip.
You might need to watch it again
