Lightbulb Mayfair Club February 1961

It looks as though the quest to find the first legal casino in Britain has now been solved. It was at the Mayfair Club in Berkeley Square and opened in February 1961.

Here's the coverage in the Sydney Morning Herald via Google Newspaper Archive.

Single Chemin de Fer table with a fee charged per session to ensure a game of equal chance.

Addendum.
The Grandson of George James has contacted me and we've swopped some information. He points out that the club in Mayfair seemed only to have Chemin de Fer. His grandfather opened in Port Table with live entertainment, dancing, fine dining and a full compliment of games including Roulette which many at the time thought was risky.

I'm sure we'll have more correspondence so hopefully I'll have some images and more newspaper reports to share shortly.
